Synopsis

Zhao Yunlan, the head of the Special Investigations Department (SID), a team that handles supernatural events and solves mysterious cases related to spirits and mythical beings. With his sharp mind and laid-back demeanor, Zhao Yunlan leads his team in investigating strange phenomena in the modern-day city. During one of their cases, Zhao Yunlan meets Shen Wei, a reserved and stoic university professor who is deeply connected to the supernatural world. While Shen Wei appears to be an ordinary scholar, he hides a secret identity as the powerful Hei Pao Shi (Black Cloaked Envoy), a guardian of the underworld responsible for maintaining order between the human and spirit worlds. As Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei work together to solve supernatural cases, they gradually uncover a complex history that ties them together. They share a deep, fated bond that transcends time, spanning thousands of years.
